Getting a QT tank running
I need to set up a QT tank as soon as possible. I have a Scotts Fairy Wrasse that has white stuff on it's fin. Infection maybe?
I'm going to Petsmart/Petco to pick up the following; 10 gallon tank Small powerhead Heater What filtration should I get, that would be available at those stores? What type of light do I need? I plan on siphoning ten gallons from my main display to the QT tank. I also have a sponge filter in my sump, should I place that sponge in the QT tank? T H A N K S! |

sounds like you are doing the right things. I recently set up a QT tank myself--a 10 gallon. I bought a cheap Aquatech hang on filter for it--it basically has a carbon filter and bio-sponge thing in it, and filters 100 GPH. It works fine, I use on on my freshwater QT tank. Of course when you treat, take out the carbon. And yes, put the sponge from your other setup in the filter/or tank--it will help instantly cycle it.

That sound just right. Any NO light will be more than enough. A bottle of Amquel would be a good idea also.

I (personally) think there's no need to introduce more chemicals here, please keep in mind that copper in any form is a toxic metal. I just ran to seachem's site, and the directions state that cupramine cannot be used with any other medication. Hyposalinity is a kinder, gentler ich removal method, but a method that should not be done without a hydrometer. Please read here for more information: http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-08/sp/index.php http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2...ature/index.php Lots of info on setting up a QT tank and proper ways of using them. |
