What ORP is avarage? mine is 500

Iv'e monitored my orp with two different monitors, new probes and old I don't have an ozone generator - And, I have moved this same tank two miles away and a year later my ORP is still between 480 to 500 (pretty much day or night), Does anyone have an idea how lower my orp?

how is everything doing? as in "if'n it ain't broke, don't fix it".

do you use the same calibration solution for both monitors? maybe you have a bad/used it wrong calibration solution

the only natural raiser of ORP I can think of would be an oxygen-reactor situation. a skimmer is the closest thing to an oxygen reactor you probably have.

if everything is doing great, just turn the bleepin' thing off so you don't have to look at it

something is wrong with your monitors. No way it can be that high without ozone.

If you don't clean the probes often it will give you false readings that are higher than what the tank real orp is at. I had to clean my probes at least once a week to get the correct readings.

I'm in the same boat. Mine gets dirty quickly and has to be cleaned. Its starting to become a pain actually.

About every 2-3 weeks you need to soak the probe in vinegar and give it a light scrubbing with an old toothbrush. It will drop back down to about 300 w/o ozone.

Have you checked it with a calibration solution?

Yes, I even put my controller on my friends tank and it read 380. so I know it's working properly, but what will lower the ORP?

speaking of used ORP monitors and probes, I pulled mine after it was a constant headache to keep working correctly too. I should sell it to some other sucker already.

Why would you want to lower your ORP levels?

Do you dose anything that could be raising it, such as Iodine?

It takes about a week before the probe read the correct orp when its new,

I wouldn't trust these readings at all. I run ozone and don't like to have my tank over 425.

W/O ozone 300 - 320 my probe took about a week to settle in. It'll go higher with ozone injection. At 500, you'd be seeing bleaching of corals and white around the gills of the fish. Look for a thread about ozone and ORP.

I just got a controller and mine reads low; about 230-270. It was above 300 then I shut the pumps and skimmer and it plummeted. I noticed that the skimmer isn't skimming properly when it is below 300?

What should a good average be?

My PH also seems to fluctuate from 8.2 to 7.9 from daytime to night.

Everything in my tank seems to be good; so I wouldn't want to change anything drastically.
