I have red bugs
I contaced my vet today to see if I could get some interceptor. I told them exactly what it was for. They said they were not sure if they could give it to me for that reason. They are going to let me know on Monday. My LFS said they may be able to get me some Wednesday.
Wish me luck. FB |

That's why it's nice to have a big dog. I get inteceptor no questions asked . Of course I did let them assume it was for the dog

Seriously consider all your options before using interceptor, in November I had red bugs on 1 out of 3 Acros, I used interceptor and since then my whole system has been messed, and the other two Acros slowly died from RB and or the tank conditions after the 3rd treatment anyway.
I used the correct amount described here in RC, and did 3 15% water changes during 3 days after each "treatment" and used two fresh TLF reactors of carbon after each. First off, I lost all my hermit crabs within 15 min, and many things in the tanks were not happy, after each treatment I had a huge algae bloom from all of the dead and dying things in the tank, I havn't seen any stamatis snails since the treatment and about 90% of my other snails have slowly died since the treatment, they slowly just seem to stop eating and die adding more "fuel" to the nutrient problem. I thought I wouldn't miss the hermits as I thought they were bothering other inhabitants but since their demise I now see they had an important part in the habitat. I am happy to say that for the past 3 weeks with lots of snails added and hermits purchased my tank is back to it's happy self. When I remark to my LFS about the treatment they just nod knowingly and make a very neutral comment on the fact that it "kills off allot of stuff", of course they rub their hands with glee cuz you now have to spend 2-300 bucks fixing the tank. Would I ever treat my tank again? Never, I may have to go Acro-less for 6 months to a year but you can do so much with softies and LPS that I will wait. Just a thought Ian Ward |

Sorry to hear about your experience Ian. Mine was no big deal. Caught most all my shrimp and crabs. Did three treatments. Lost a couple pepps, and pods, and acro crabs. Everything else was fine. Interceptor itself can not kill "lots of stuff" simply by the design of its active ingedient. Here's my thread about RB:

I treated outside the tank and kept the acros in quarantine for 2 weeks. I haven't seen a red bug since

I think I will have to put a higher priority on setting up a quarantine tank.
Here is a pic of my display, in it's very early days, I like the LR like it is it looks very dramatic but it also makes it VERY hard to catch anything, there are just to many hiding places. I no longer can be convinced that Interceptor cant kill other things, I know, I know I have read it all, in fact the premise that I finally did do the treatment was based on all the reading that I have done and that it will only kill RB's. I can only go on what I saw, ALL of my blue legged hermits dead within an hour, acro crabs soon after, the scarlet hermits in about 1.5 hours, snails acting funny, then slowly dying, so It doesn't leave much to the imagination that it must be killing lots of micro organisms, if not then why the algae bloom many guys report after the treatment, Oh and I have never seen my skimmer work so hard as the weeks between treatments and for 2 weeks after. Hey, if your experience with the stuff was ok then that's great I just thought I would post my account of what happened, so FB would have more info to make his decision on. Cheers Ian |

Thanks fredrickk, I love how it looks but it does restrict the number of places corals can go.

I started treating my tank yesterday @ 3:00.
I removed my cleaner shrimp and 4 of my 5 hermit crabs. I could not catch my emerald crabs as I rarly see them. I removed my carbon and Rowaphos. I used about 1/2 of a Salifert spoon as I didn't have a scale to weigh it. I only have a 30 gallon. Truthfully I think I used less than the recommended dosage. @ 9:00 I put my carbon and rowaphos back in and turned my air pump back on for my skimmer. I did lose the 1 hermit that I didn't find. I have not seen the 2 emerald crabs but I rarely do. My cleaner was not doing well in the holding tank when I put him back in. I didn't think he was going to make it. He appeared to be fine this morning. I did not see any red bugs. Will do another treatment this weekend. |
