Are All Ozone Generators Created Equal?

hey guys im looking to hook up a ozone generator on my 120g reef and not quite sure where to start on looking for one? how many mg/hr do I need and what brands should I look at?

50 mg hr would be fine for you. I have the RedSea ozonizer and have had nothing but problems w/ it if that helps.

I have the redsea one too. The only concern was to add an airdryer to the input of the unit. Mositure in the air inhibits ozone generation in the RedSea units. The RedSea uses an electrical arc to produce the ozone.

The air dryer is nothing more than silica beads in a tube with input on one end and output on the other. The silica beads soak up the moisture and dry air goes in the ozonizer helping to produce more ozone. The beads are removed and baked in an oven to remove moisture, cooled and put back in.

What other units are there to consider besides the red sea? i know they are th most common, but i see a lot of other brands out there, some very expensive, some too inexpensive.

I just bought an enaly ozonator. Its a new release and some of the good features it has are the built in air pump, timer, and most important, ability to control the amount of ozone, a definite plus from all the other previous models.

I bought mine off of ebay for about 115 shipped, here is the link

I have been using a Enaly that I bought off of ebay for around a year without any problems. Not the model mentioned above, but one without a built in timer. I think it is like 300U or something for the model.

I use a Sanders 25 mg/hr on my 125 and it has proven more than enough. My ORP went from 320 to 400 in a week or so and has stayed there. The Sanders unit is very efficient and also has an output control. I definitely recommend them. I don't really trust the ratings for them.

Hope you won't mind my asking, but are all your ozonizers hooked back through the skimmer or directly through other means back to the sump tank?
