what type of glass do I need for a replacement

Ok so the glass that used to cover my 250MH bulbs in the fixture broke, so I was wondering if there is anything special that I need to know about the type of glass to get, I mean does a metal halide create heat that is hotter than say 450 degrees farenheit?
