Tunze 6000 or 6100

I am having a hard time deciding which to purchase. My tank will be a 240 and probably be a mixture of LPS and some SPS. Would two of 6000's be enough? I have never experience or seen these pumps in person, so I don't really know what's the flow like. Do I need to spend the extra $200 or I would be fine with the 6000. Thanks.

i would get the 6000 and if you didn't like the flow you can just upgrade the transformer.

The only difference between the 6100 and 6000 is that transformer. Also you will spend the same if you just brought the 6100 or 6000 + the upgrade transformer.

I have 2 6000's in my 120. For your size I would go with the 6100's. The nice thing is you can adjust the flow through the controller so if need be you can turn it down.

I tried both 6000 and the 6100 in my 200. The 6100 IMO was the route to go. It would also depend some on the types of caorals you are going to be keeping. if sps and the like go with 6100 if softies and LPS 600 would probably work.

BTW nice avatar.

I have a 120 and got the 2-6000's. I ended up upgrading to the 2-6100's by purchasing larger transformers. Save yourself the trouble and get the 6100's.

Would it be too much flow and create a sandstorm if I go with the 6100? Would adding a transformer be something that is pretty easy to do and won't affect the performance of the pump? Or is it a hassle.

Thanks, szwab. I grew up living in Columbus, Ohio. I am and will always be a Buckeye!

Hey Jeffrey, the pump itself can be used as a 6100 or 6000. The only difference between a 6000 and a 6100 is the transformer. It's just plug and play. Just replace the existing transfomer which you plug into the driver and the power outlet with the new one.

It seems like everybody will eventually end up with the 6100. I guess I can save the hassle now and just get the 6100 and don't have to deal with the transformer.

Another question, so if I end up with the 6100 and decide that it's too much flow, I can slow down the flow with the controller, right? By doing this, would it affect the performance of the pump in the long run?

yeh, pretty much haha. and yup you can always just turn it down on either the controller or the driver itself. Controller will be easier and it won't affect the performance of the pump in the long run. If anything, i would think it would help.

I have 2 of the 6000 and the 7094 controller on my 110. My tank is half the size of yours in volume, so I can tell you first hand that these are not enough for your tank. You will want the 6100 for sure, even if you use a controller.
