Storing Liverock?
I am in the process of setting up a new 150 and have found an individual locally that is selling 100# of live rock that I would like to purchase. The problem is I do not have a place to store it until about 2 mos. Could I store it in a 30 gallon rubbermaid tote, with a flourscent shop light and a circulation pump. Will it keep this way for 2 mos. Anyone with any ideas or experiences would be real helpful. Thanks

I kept LR in a 33g trash can for quite a while that way. It just lost a bit of the colorful algaes. If the price and hassle are worth it, go for it

Yes, that will be fine. The light will only hit the top few rocks anyway, so you might end up skipping it. Coralline etc will come back. While you are at it, I would search "cooking live rock" - since you have the time and are almost doing this anyway.

Is the rock still in the tank? Not to pee on your parade, but......
After reefing for about 5 years I finally got a 120 donated to me. It was the coolest tank I ever set up. My corals grew and grew. I got a lot of rock and frags from a friend. All over the area I was living in, other reefers were getting these brown fuzzy patches of hydroid in thier tanks. It was like an STD. Teardown after teardown ensued, and of course I was last. It killed so many colonies of acro and monti that I had grown. It was my worst reefing experience. The general consensus is that it came from Florida rock. That's what I hear from reefers all over the east coast of Florida. Be really careful what you put in your tank. If I were you, I would cook it and seed it unless you know what that guy's tank looked like and why he tore it down.

i would put it all in a new trashcan with a good circulation pump, i wouldnt put a basic shop light on it cause you will definatley grow unwanted alge, i would just keep it dark,(unless theres growth that you want to keep) and start fresh when your ready with good lights

take the opportunity to cook the rocks now that way ther are no unwanted hitchhikers when you set your tank up.

I stored some live rock in a 5 gallon bucket with a powerhead & lid on top for over a month or so & it was fine. Lost a bit of color, but that was it.
