Miracle mud

Is the miracle mud any good to have in a refugium?
Would it be ok to add sand on top of the mud?

Anybody has experience with this? How do you use it?

From what I read Lorretto not too many people here like to use it. I think a deep sand bed or a sand bucket will work better.

Hi Lorretto,

I use it and have had very good results with it.

You are not supposed to add sand to the top of the mud. You should not have much sand in your main tank either (l don't have any).

I recommend you check the ecosystems webpage and contact them for details of how to use the mud. They can help get you started correctly. You don't have to use mm to have a great tank but if you do use it you should follow their directions closely for good results starting up.

Here's the link to their FAQ page. http://www.ecosystemaquarium.com/html/FAQ.cfm

They have an instruction sheet which describes the setup process in great detail but you will have to ask for it (they don't have it on the website).

Good luck

I use it, but I've never really used anything else. When it comes time to change out the mud, I may switch over to sand to see what kind of results I get. With my tanks, I've never seemed to be able to get over the hump. It may be a while, but I'll get back to you to let you know the results. Good luck.

I have used it in a fuge with macro algae, I can't say it lived up to what it claims and it's very expensive. For the money there are most definitely other more economical methods.
