noisy mag

I changed my sump and fuge to the basement under my tank. I had to upgrade my pump for 12feet of head so I purchased a mag3600. Great little pump but far too noisy. Is there a way to make this pump a lot quieter?

I have a mag pump on my sump return and it's the noisiest component of the tank ... I think the noise is generated by vibrations from the impeller.

When I remove the impeller and spin it in my hand, it's quite obvious that it's not well balanced when spinning. I ended up ordering a replacement impeller, but even the new replacement was poorly balanced, so I'm still running the original impeller.

I think that's the trick to quieting down these pumps... you'll need to find an impeller that spins true and balanced... and the only way to do that is by purchasing a few impellers and testing each one to get one that's actually right. Cheap parts I guess... a good quality manufactured impeller should be absolutely true and balanced to begin with, IMHO.
