Found Ocean Rocks....

You know sometimes you feel like your about to ask a question of some intelligent people and they are all gonna laugh at you how dumb you are, well thats how i feel about this right now. I found some rocks in the ocean, i'm looking to put them in my tank.

Should I? or not? and if so how?

you mean rocks you found washed up on shore? that would not be illegal, but harvesting live rock would. i dont think there are too many reefs in New Jersey.

Just make sure the rocks dont have any hitchhikers on them. dip them in a high salt water mix before dropping them in.

A local reefer friend of mine got visited by the FWC for taking one piece of rock from the water.

It's not live rock, just some rocks that were near the shore and on the sand one of them does have some sort of brown grass growing on it... So the extent of it's "life" is unkown

the last time i went to the beach in N.J., all i found were black small oval obsidioun rocks found in almost any stream (weird i know). like i said in my previous post..."you mean rocks you found washed up on shore? that would not be illegal, but harvesting live rock would. " i dont promote harvesting anything living from the ocean, but again i dont think that is what he is asking.

it would be ok i guess if they are small, but personally i wouldnt risk screwing up your eco system with something unknown. i would always play it safe.

Peronally I would not oput anything I found on a beach in NJ in my tank. Too much pollution and other nasty stuff that may have leached in to the rock which may leach back out in to your tank.
