Cheato is one way theres also mangrove and a few more you can use. The reason you need fuge for the mandrin is for pod reproduction . They can clean a tank dry as this is there main food source , wait a few months after fuge to get mandrin. Yes adding some LR in there is good idea. Also i used mineral mud and then add 1 inch base rock above this. There is also another substate which i cant think of the name but regular mud may not be the best from my research. If you type refugium in a search engine then look at all the photos , this may help with design.

1 you could go with PCs
2 a deep sand bed would work or look at marine depot dot com and look at their substrate they have cheaper mud for refugiums 3it would help alot...there is really no use for a light if you dont have macro algae 4 live rock rubble always helps but isnt needed |

Yea it grows like a weed and i cant get rid of it fast enough. Im not saying that the mud is bad just that most perfer not to use it . I think it needs to be replaced often but whene i research my fuge subsrate i found the mineral mud to be the better choice.
