Here yee, here yee - LIRA's New Mtg Location
To the members of LIRA;
The board of directors has been actively seeking alternative meeting locations for the past few weeks since a recurring scheduling issue with Dowling still exists. Tony (Acropora) had posted a request for the members to email him with potential sites. One member James Dickens, also known as dickenscd on RC offered his warehouse for a potential meeting place. The board met this past Friday at the location and toured the building and parking facility. We are pleased to announce that this location is ideal for holding our future meetings. The building is available to us not only for Fridays and Saturdays but if needed Sundays . An area can be setup for trading and sales by our members. Also available is a large area for potential frag swaps or meets, a private parking lot and even a kitchen. The meeting room can handle at a minimum of 50 people and can expand up to 75+. A backup projector can be provided and an overhead projector mount should be installed shortly. James has even discussed the ability for wi-fi access. The location is just off the LIE at exit 53 and the Sagtikos Pkwy which puts it right in the middle of the Island. Both the Southern and Northern State Parkways tie into the Sagtikos. The LIRR has the Ronkonkoma and the Port Jeff branch with stations 10 min or less via taxi. In a ½ mile radius, there is the Sheraton hotel, a Bennigans, Romano’s Grill and other eateries which can provide members a gathering place after our meetings. Our next association meeting will be held on Friday May 18, at 7:30pm, the presentation starts at 8pm. The address is DICKENS Inc. 75 Austin blvd. Commack 11725-5701. We hope to see you there. The road is behind the Howard Johnson Motel http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...&zipcode=11725 We hope to see you there.

Friday the 18th
Just a heads up here folks--
Our speaker arrives @ 6PM JFK. Please be a little patient if traffic slows us up some. We were originally scheduled for Saturday but since the masses prefered a Friday--- |

Congrats to the Board on a great decision in chosing an ideal location (as in wow, those roads are accessible to everyone!)
I've been watching all of this unfold and think it's the time for me to join the group..I just can't make it this week, but I should be there for the next meeting!! |

A word of warning: I'm an air traffic controller at the New Your Air Route Traffic Control Center and I handle 1 arrival route to JFK. Friday late afternoons and early evenings are extremely busy. We hold JFK's continually during this time period. Be patient with your guest speaker. The airlines LOVE to cram as many planes as humanly possible and then some. Good luck to y'all and hope you guys enjoy your night. I wish I could join but my schedule calls for night shifts on friday and saturday nights for the foreseeable future. 8(

It’s an honor that the board has chosen my office as the meeting site for LIRA, I will follow the board’s guidance and do everything I can to support our association.
Our official meeting will not start until 7:30pm, Friday, but the room will open by 5:30pm, you are always welcome to come in early and have a drink. If you work late and do not have time for dinner before the meeting, our kitchen and refrigerator mostly have “all you can eat” bagel, bread, cream cheese, fruit jelly, coffee, milk, apple, banana and cup of noodle. There will be at least two computers available for you to check your email and browse the web. However, if you want to bring in your own computer, wireless access is also available. In addition to the 1,000 SF meeting room, we also have plenty space to setup extra tables for trading by the members or vendors, I can even setup a small frag and fish tank so that you can keep your live stock “alive” after the meeting. However, I have to consult the board and let them make the decision. Looking forward to seeing you next Friday, May 18. James Chou Aka James Dickens

Thanks, James.
This is great for the club and your post above is such a warm, inviting, and generous expression of the way our club should operate. We need some stability and I think we have found it. I will try to arrive early in case you need help setting anything up. Looking forward to seeing everyone! --Dave-- |
