Hopefully this will rid my algae

I just purchased this ASM-G4x skimmer for my 72 gal. I know its an OVERKILL but maybe it will kill or reduce the hair and green algae significantly. The skimmer is so big that it doesn't even fit under the tank. I will eventually sell it, but I will use it for now to see what happens with the algae. What do you think? Will it remove the algae?

This setup has been up since 3-9-07. There is only live rocks, 4 snails, 4 hermit crabs and two damsels. That it. I do not want to put anything else in there untill I get control of the algae and learn more about the hobby. I would like to have SPS, clams, and other compatible corals.

oh, i would get rid of damsels (return them, unless u plan on keeping them) before you start adding more to your tank because you will have to remove all that rock to do so

good luck on your jurney

Sorry nemofish2217, I do have an RO/DI unit. I even purchased new filters for it. I was suppose to do a 12 gallon water change on Sunday but instead I added 12-14 gallon to the tank with the container that the skimmer is in. I think that qualifies as a 12-14 gallon water change. I haven't tested the water yet. Phosphate was 0 the last time I checked, which was last weekend. I do run a phosphate reactor.

The skimmate is coming out very lite. Is it suppose to be lite like the picture below? Is it because I have a lite bioload?

My parameters are:

Nitrate - 0
Phosphate - 0
Calcium - 450
ALK - 2.97

I would geuss it's cause of the light bio-load. Nice skimmer!

How do you fix it so that it doesn't skim wet?

You need to lower the level of the foam in the chamber. There should be a dial that will let you do that.

No skimmer will reduce algae problems. Algae are part of the reef. You may actually make the water more favorable to algae by increasing light to them. If there is detritus in the system, the algae will grow as fast as the bacteria break down the detritus.

If you really want to reduce algae, with a sand bed, use gfo, grow macroalgae, run carbon and buy lots of snails to keep it in check.
