weird white spongey stuff?

can anyone id this ugly looking thing.... i want to take it out of the tank but not sure what it is or how it got there.

It looks a little like a semi-transparent sponge..with tiny white flecks on the surfface, also all around it are some small white what can only be described as blobs..lol... they look like they are filter feeding.

anyway...sorry for the vague description, heres a pic ive taken of it..

that looks like sponges. i'm sure you could just scrape them off if you don't like them. they don't hurt anything, so the aesthetics is definitely your call.
