gen x 2400 cavitating? silencing?

Hello all! I'm a little lost- every once in awhile, my gun-x sounds like it cavitates. Its goes right back to normal, but it makes my skimmer act a little weird. I did make a silencer for it, out of a pill bottle stuffed with newspaper. It has a hole in the other end, also. Is this it? The darn pump was loud as heck without it....

Thanks in advance

Hey man, are you talking about a loud sucking noise every now and then? If so, i'm guessing your pump inlet is in to shallow of water and its starting a whirlpool with the surface and makes a sucking then goes back to normal. That sound about right?

Hmm, could be a defect with the pump, or it may be the mesh you added. If there's alot of excess it could be causing this. You don't want it to rub on the volute, that causes problems.
