Hawkfish/6-line Question
How long will it take a flame hawk to get used to the idea of a new 6-line wrasse being in his presence? The tank is a 135 gallon reef and every time he sees him he goes into attack mode. The 6-line swims much faster and therefore not showing any battle bruises but don't want him to starve do to the chasing. Will the flamehawk "cook his jets" in time? If so, about how long have you had to wait with yours to get used to a new fish?
Thanks, Janey |

hawkfish
I'm betting the flamehawk will chase him around for quite awhile. He's probably sizing him up as dinner is there in any sort of size difference between the two. Remember, hawkfish are pretty much small groupers without a swim bladder, so smaller fish, shrimp and the such are always a possible target.
Hopefully the wrasse will find a good bolt hole or two and can avoid the hawk. You can help out, by increasing your feeding schedule. A fat hawkfish is a slow hawkfish. -avp |

Thanks for the reply avp It's my daughter's tank and she doesn't have a computer........so I posted for her. She just added the wrasse this afternoon (after I quarantined it for her). The wrasse is a juvenile........probably 2/3 adult size. He's very quick and gets out of the way in a hurry.......the tank is 6 foot long so there are lots of hiding spots. She is hoping the flamehawk will get used to seeing him fairly soon and lose interest. There used to be a sixline in her reef, but that was over a year ago......obviously the flamehawk has a short term memory
