Koralia or SEIO
I'm torn between two worlds. I have a 90 gallon reef ready tank with a deep sand bed and approximately 165 lbs of liverock. I'm slowly but surely adding corals of various types. Everything is up and running but I need more waterflow. I had two Maxijet 1200s moving lots of water, but they caused a lot of heat. So I ditched them for one Koralia 1, thinking 400 gph was good movement. Got it home, put it in, and the flow is so widespread that it wasn't enough. So where do I go from here? I'm torn between several options.
Do I add two Koralia 3's? Or how about two Koralia 4's? If not these, how about two SEIO M820's or two SEIO M1100's? I don't want to have too much flow, since I don't have Acro's or anything that needs massive amounts of water movement. I need something that will be suitable for polyps, LPS, mushrooms, soft corals, and the SPS (if placed directly into the flow). What do you guys think? Thanks. |

the seio's are much uglier and also have problems with being reliable. My friend moved from seio's to koralia's and he is much happier. he has 2 3's in his 75 gallon and he thinks its perfect. For a 90 you will want atleast 2 3's

I never used Seios, but the Koralias are strong & quiet. I have 2x HK4s on a 4ft 100g reef.

Koralia of course. Low power consumption. Nicer design. wide pattern flow. Nothing can beat the magnet.

I have one #4 in my 75 and love it. I will probably add a 3 or 4 on the other side. For a 90 a would suggest two #4. It seems to me that the seios should be much cheaper considering that the hk4's are only $48. Much more value in the koralias IMO.

I replaced two 1500 for two 4s and will never turn back. I love the Koralias, and have had them since they first came out.

I too replaced my 1100 seios with the k4's. The response from my tank has never been better. Plus the k's are much more reliable than the seios

Depends on layout and flow you're trying to achieve. My Seio 1100 pushes all the way across a 3ft tank with the current very easily, the K3's don't, but the flow cone is wider for the 18" or so the flow is still noticable. The K4's might better.

I am thinking about replacing my 2 seios 1100s with 2 k4's. but will they work on the seio controller as well?

are these pumps suitable if you have inverts...ie sea hare. I have had to mod my mj's to avoid the little guy from being killed but will these pumps pose a danger to him as well???

I am very interested in the Koralias as well. Does anyone have a pic to show a size comparison. Perhaps between the 4's and the 1500's?

Your sea hare is toast on the Koralia's. The front end is totally open for the propeller so he will get chopped.
Also for the record SEIOs are crap. The mounts suck the pump sucks, the price is a rip. I bought them and the only use I could find is for mixing saltwater for water changes. For the money Koralias on a SEIO controller is probably the closest to Tunze you can get without taking out a second mortgage.

I have one Koralia 4 (1,200 GPH) for my 120 gallon reef that has zoo's, mushrooms, LPS, SPS and soft corals. I have the Koralia aimed at the opposite side of the tank and have great water flow. I love the Koralia 4 so much that I'm replacing my three Maxi-Jet 900's with two Koralia 3's (850 GPH).

No pump is ever considered "safe" for inverts such as sea hare, nudibranch, etc... |
