1st pic is a narissius (bad spelling) snail. Very awesome to have in the tank!

2nd pic looks very very much like Aptaisa. Not good.

But hey, 1 out of 2 being good for the tank aint bad

I would keep a close eye on that "nassarius" snail that you possible have there. Nassarius can also look like whelks. All whelks are predatory to something and have been known to destroy corals, clams, etc... so keep an eye on it.

umm, well, I just felt like a time for a treat for those guys coz they are safe as you said, but as soon as I gave them a small cocktail shrimp they ( 3 ) started to eat like wolves and seems like a mucus on the shrimp now secreted from them, so do you still think they are Nassarius ?

I'd keep an eye on the snail too. The knobbiness of the shell looks a little more pronounced than on my nassarius, and it's possible it could be a whelk that came with the rock.

the nassarius should go into the sand. the whelks just usually cruise around. While you are keeping an eye on it, watch and see if it is hanging around other snails or any bivalves.

yeah, you probably should trash that anemone while there is only 1

edit: interesting foot in that last small pic. of the 3 or 4 whelks I've had hitch in, none had that weird little shape on the front of the foot. Is that some positive identifier?

first pic is of some kind of Nassarius sp.. theres many species of Nassarius, heres some of them. Nassarius Shells
2nd is aiptasia
3rd is a couple of Ilyanassa obsoleta, which are temperate snails, and dont usually do very good in our systems. they also ofter carry flukes that will bury under your skin and irritate the crap out of you.

careful removing the aptasia they can spread like fire. I had to get a pepermint shrimp, he eliminated them pretty quick. If you choose to do this make sure you get a true pepermint and not a camelback shrimp (I believe this is the look alike) they are similar in appearance. The pepermint is sort of translucent the camelback is not. Please foregive any spelling errors

it would be better to let it grow than to remove it manually. any piece that breaks off or is left behind will grow into a new one. heres a link with some other methods of removal.

at this point, the cheapest way for you to get rid of it is probably to just take that piece of rock out. it looks like a really small piece, so just throw it in the sun for a couple of days ( or what have you) and yes, just kill everything on the rock and then throw it back in after a few days. i wouldn't probably ever say that, but that piece of LR you have is probably only worth a dollar or two, and that's far cheaper and way less head ache than trying to get rid of aiptasia in nay other way.

The first snail looks more like a Whelk or a conch to me.

In the pic with the 4 snails, three of them are muricids (2 are Thais or Stramonita species, often called Rock Snails, one is either a Drupella or closely related genus), and the one with the aperture up is a subadult cerithiid. The cerith won't hurt anything, the others might eat other molluscs in your tank.

Cheers,

Don
