I don;t believe they do. You might want to turn him over so he doesn't die.

I have had that happen (in the back of the tank) i couldn't get to him because i would have had to remove a lot of my rocks around, so he died back there, but my tank cleaners took care of him.

Best thing is to give them a hand if you see them flipped over. From what I've read, they can actually drown from being upside down for too long a time.

hmm wonder if he will make it.. It was upside down for about two days. I flipped him back over. Reason I didn't do it sooner was to see if he could do it on his own.. Plus he was behind the live rocks... If he does die will the blue legged hermit crabs clean him up? I dont have a cleaner shrimp yet..

yah, the blue legs will take care of it. So will nassarius if you have those.

I thought turbos could right themselves, and astreas could not...?

I have about 12 turbo snails in my 55g and noticed that when mine end up on their backs, they will almost come completely come out of their shells, searching for something to grab on to (this happens during the night). If nothing is around, as a last resort they will pick up a bundle of sand to make them top heavy and attempt to roll the shell right side up. This technique seems to always work. I haven’t had a single turbo die yet because it couldn’t right its self. They tend to flip right side up only at night, I guess because they feel safer when it’s dark. Keep in mind this is only for turbo snails, if I notice a different type of snail in my tank flip, I always assist in turning it up right.

I've had them (turbos) turn themselves over too. There is a type that I believe can't do that though, but I can't remember the type of snail right now - astreas I think.
