Sump and Overflow Recommendations
I have always been labeled a geek of some sort....science geek, star wars geek, math geek etc etc. so I thought why not be a reef geek! I've spent the last couple of months gathering equipment....bought my lights, a chiller, skimmer, tank, things that I understood the basic function of. So, now I need help in finding a sump and overflow for my tank. I have a 75 gallon tank and I plan on keeping a lot of stony corals. Little did I know that so much thought goes into this hobby and being a perfectionist, I don't wanna screw it up.
So, your help and recommendations would be much appreciated. Thank you! |

To Reef Central I would recommend drilling the tank, and making a sump out of an aquarium. A 30L is a good one to use. If you dont drill the tank, the best overflow in the business is a Lifereef.

for a sump i would buy a used tank, the biggest that will fit under your stand and cut and put in your own baffles, very easy to do.
Overflows i will only use Lifereef, never loose syphon and garunteed to start rht back up after a power outage |

Thanks! My boyfriend likes DIY projects, so this may be right up his alley. I'm glad I joined this site!
Lifereef sounds great for what I need, especially since I live in an area where power outages are pretty common because of the wind. Which is why I was pretty scared about doing a tank, but we bought a few back up battery packs...hopefully those will help

You could always go with a rubbermaid sump if its going to be hidden.....save lots of cash.

I would drill the tank. I drilled my first tank this weekend and it was easy as pie.

Does anyone have pictures of their sump or overflow, so I can kind of see how I need to set mine up? I'd really appreciate it.
