Only animals that will sift the top layer only. I use nassarius and cerith snails for this. I have kept tigertail cukes and a fighting conch as well for the same purpose. I would stay away from gobies or sand sifting stars as they will deplete the sandbed of its fauna and defeat the purpose.

Sable tamiser les étoiles et gobies peuvent obtenir aussi profondément. J'enfoncerais aussi aux escargots.

I have noticed that my diamond goby does not go further than about 1/2" deep into the sand. Could that still cause a problem? I hope not because my sand surface has not looked this white since it came out of the bag.

There is nothing wrong with that goby cleaning the sand, he will make many burrows and you will lose some of the benefits of the sand being undisturbed. I have a diamond goby and wouldnt trade him for anything.

well based on what I have gather,

putting animals that interact mainly with the sand bed are considered "predators" such as the gobies, sand sifting stars etc,

these are the some of the pieces which add to the demise of DSB and DSB getting the bad rap that they don't work, etc,

have a good night,

sam
