Cool pump for my new skimmer

Hi every one

I just got a new ( to me ) ETSS 1800 XR
skimmer

they recommend for it to be Fully powered use a 1/2 HP pool pump.
Very energy efficient with a 100 RLT Iwaki pump. It can provide exceptional water quality in tanks up to 800 gallons,

since I am only using this on a 200gal system I was thinking of getting a 100 RLT Iwaki pump, but I have been reading that the fan is loud,

do you guys think two mag 1200 will run this skimmer, they say you need 2000gph and the two mag 1200 will give me 2400 gph

any recommendations on a pump that will do the job and not cost $350+.

thanks for reading

it needs a pressure rated pump to work properly, maybe a sequence pump of some kind? Check the used equipment forum for some options that may cost less

Cool how do I know if the pump is power rated

how do I know if the pump is power rated,

if the top of the skimmer tubs are 4' above the pump and the pump has in its spec's

1' = 3000gph
5' = 2675gph
10'=2225 gph
15'=1725 gph

then I would have my 1800gph,

is that what you mean by power rating,
or is their something the pump has to have in it's spec's that I need to make shier is has

thanks for the reply

pressure rated pumps are usually labled as such and from what I have seen all external units. Sequence makes great pumps:

The Iwaki will be fine. Or the Panworld 250ps. The pumps speciafy whther they are pressure rated or not That is a big skimmer for a 200 gallon tank IMO. With 4 becketts, it's takes a serious pump with some serious power...

Oh and you are not going to find a quiet pump for that skimmer IMO.

Unhappy IT IS BIG

I agree that it is a big skimmer, but I just could not pass this deal up, like I said new to me
I can't be leave how much they are new I was getting a bigger tank for my fresh water fish, and the guy had it sitting in his garage, he told me I would never need another skimmer no matter how big my system would get.

I am planning on expanding with more salt water tanks around my house wile I am remodeling.

that is one of the reasons I built a shed on to the side of my house that I have both my 92 tanks plumed to, no more sumps and pumps in my house .

I have my reef tank and eel tank but no tank for just fish yet and then I also was planning on a frag tank one day.

I guess I should ask, can it do more harm then good having this skimmer running on my system till I expanded.

thanks for the info about the pumps

Go with the Sequence UNO Marlin, 2050gph pressure rated pump. I have the Wahoo on my beckett skimmer and it is a wonderful, quiet pump. I liked it so much that I have bought all sequence pumps for my new tank being built.

My concern is just that there will be times that the skimmer is idle and heat from running the big pump on a smaller system I would say that I do like the sequence pumps though... It's always been a toss up for me between sequence and pan world, just depending on the specific application...

with a skimmer that big, and you saying you have a separate shed for the sumps and pumps, it seems like you should be able to plumb those tanks together with a central sump system, and that skimmer skim the water from all displays. wait!! is there a reason you shouldnt do that?

I do have them as one

I do have them plumbed to one sump that is why I am saying 200 gal , my tanks at the moment are two 92 corners and 60 gal sump,

but hoping to expand

one day my 300 gal fresh water tank I just got could turn in to a salt water shark tank and I will be ready.

Unhappy would this pump work

I just got this pump for my system and wanted to ask,
do you guys think this pump will work for my new skimmer ??

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...3252&rd=1&rd=1

or would this pump be better for a close loop on a 90 gal tall.

the skimmer is only 4 " above the pump

it only has a 1 " output and the skimmer has a 1 1/2 " input .

Unhappy I need to know if I can use this pump

# AM643S250-T10PR01
this is the pump P/N and I just notes on the data sheet on eBay’s action that the 6 th digit is the impeller type and -s- is for standers not a -p- for high pressure. (their is a link to the data sheet on the action)

this pump will do 1902 gal hr with only the standars impeller, and alls I need is 1800 for the skimmer,

is it still better for me to just use it for a close loop and keep looking for my high pressure pump

I still have a eye out for those other pumps you guys mentiond.

thanks
