Undergravel filter + plant substrate = ???

Can i use plant substrate if i have an under ground filter? I have never had plant substrate and i don't know if it will get sucked through the bottom.

you shouldnt let an undergravel filter, or ESPECIALY plant substrate anywhere near a salt water tank. Fresh water plants love things like phosphate that will absolutly ruin your experience with saltwater.
