Question So now what do i put in my refugium...

Besides the hardware, what inhabitants do I place in the refugium?
I am thinking about using some of the refugium mud with a half inch of sand over it and probably some live rock. As for the macro, chaeto seems to be the preferred plant or is something else better?

Now what about critters...snails crabs and shrimp? What does everyone else have, or maybe you only have macro and sand why is this better?

Are certain inverts not refugium friendly? I figure anything that eats pods is not an option.

I'm dealing with a 3 compartment acrylic refugium. The actual refugium area is 15"x15"x15".

Thanks for any input.

Billy

a nice 4-6" dsb especially if you dont have a dsb in the display, skip the mud, a ball of cheato, and anything you wana throw in that wont eat pods.

I would only put in snails (Astrea, Cerith and Nassarius) if I were you. Shrimp and crabs will eventually try to eat your pods.

If you don't have any pods yet, there are online companies that sell starter kits.

Exactly, and stick with the chaeto.

I also agree, the purpose of a true refugium it to give something a refuge from predation. Predators in the fuge would defeat the purpose of it.

I would also suggest skipping the mud and go with as deep a sand bed as you can. Some LR rubble, and chaeto. I don't think a few hermits or shrimp hurt anything, especially if you keep several shrimp so they can breed and produce some food for the tank.

You can also put the shrimp in the main tank where they won't prey on anything and they still breed and release the eggs into the water column

Cool, thanks for the replies.

On the opinion of the reef mud stuff, is it because its bad or just because it does not make a difference (just like using sand).

Thanks again
