Torch Green Coral in Trouble
My Torch Green is fading fast. After several months of relative health, this coral has become almost completely bleached out over the past 2 months or so, and now is not coming out much at all. I have a 100g with 2 sets of T5s. One set runs from 1 to 6, the other from 4 to 9 or so. This is a reduction in my typical lighting which had both T5s running at at the same time daily for about 8 hours. I'm using tech a and b daily, trace element, iodine, magnesium, and a coral stimulator regularly. My tank runs off of a basic sump and a couple of powerheads for current.
Any ideas??? |

How deep is the coral in the tank? Also are the T5s VHO, HO or NO, and what is the wattage above the tank.

Why the reduction in lighting? You went from 8 hours with both sets on to only 2 hours with both sets on. It's quite possible that just one set being on isn't enough light for that coral.
I have a green torch coral and it likes lots of light.

and are you feeding it? IME I have found that target feeding them helps quite a bit!

Torch Green Follow Up
Thank you all for the responses. It lies at about the midpoint, which puts it about 10" from the surface. I honestly don't know the specific type of T5, to my knowkedge they are just standard T5s.
I reduced the lighting because my local shop gurus suggested that some of my corals that were bleaching were getting too much light includung mushrooms and SPS. Regarding the direct feeding, what do you feed directly? Trace elements? jr |

I put 150W MH over my torch in a 25gal tank and it really liked the brightest part.
Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Hammer, torch, frogspawn lagoon coral(or at least sheltered back reef coral) that is exposed to bright lighting? My vote is that it is light starved. |
