Diatom Filter ??
Does anyone have experience with DIATOM FILTERS....My tank has been established for about 1 -1/2 years and i've been experiencing a nasty cyano bloom...will a Diatom Filter help ? Right now i have a Protein Skimmer and also have a canister filter running

I know there's no scientific evidence of this, but when I started testing and supplementing my alk the cyano went away. I still have nitrates, but haven't seen cyano in a year or more.

A diatom filter won't have any direct impact on cyano ... cyano is caused by phosphates which won't be directly impacted by that filter.
Use the search feature using cyano and phosphate as your key words. |

i have 0 phosphates and i use a RO DI filter

If you have cyano then you have phosphates. Remember that test kits only regisiter whats in the water column and cyano sucks phosphates rapidly out of the water column making your phosphate test kit worthless.
