Torch died

a torch head died in my tank and there are small pieces from the tips of the tentacles floating around, will they still my other corals?

I would be more worried HOW your torch "died" and fell apart in your tank in reference to your other coral...

Current Tank Info: 80g tank, re-starting a reef after a zoanthid nudibranch plauge, followed by months of steady and unstoppable STN/RTN, crashed; stayed FOWLR for a couple years, currently an aiptasia dominated reef tank with fishies and BERGHIA

exactly ... have you checked your water parameters? a torch is fairly easy to keep even in extreme conditions - - for it to just die off is odd.

so far as the floating pieces ... i wouldn't worry about their stinging capacity too much. it's usually a defense mechanism and the corals wouldn't be trying to sting anything at that point.

Kind of weird,I had a 3 head torch go in the last couple of weeks too.Water has a tad of phosphate,but everything else tests perfect.Also in the tank are two purple tip and green tip frogspawn that have multiple heads and are doing fine.The floating pieces shouldn't hurt anything.Net 'em if you can.John

too much flow? my torch suffered from too much flow when I first got it.

also my frogspawn has released pieces several times (without dying/detiorating). No idea why it does this.

i have found that torches are touchy when it comes to tempeture change. what are your temps threw out the day?
