My new Tang

Finally my search for a tang is over. I purchased a powder Brown today. He seems very healthy, eating good. Can anyone give me any advice on keeping them?

so you're researching AFTER buying i take it?? I would advise doing so before...powder browns get big...while not the biggest of the tangs, they're still big and need a ton of room...imo a fair bit more than just a 90g tank. More like a 150 or something is the smallest i'd put one in. Personally though, I wouldnt put any tang in any tank smaller than like 250, because i just got back from a 2 week trip to hawaii, and i snorkeled every day....say a ton of different types of tangs (yellows, achiles, sailfin, etc...) and they were all SUPER active, and when they're full grown...a 90 is nowhere near the size that they'd need if you ask me...

here's a quick link to some "ok" care...i dont really agree w/liveaquaria's tank sizes and stuff, but for quick facts, its ok..

Make sure it's ACTUALLY a Powder Brown and not a Gold Rim. PICS!

I also have a question. How long does it take them to grow? I have one in my 40 which will go into my 75 then it will go into a friends 250. Right now it is 2 1/2 inches long. (Sorry to take over your thread, I figured you would need to know also)

Oh yeah, Mine is my favorite fish. It is very active and it loves to eat anything and everything you put in its tank. It also eats nori and algae very often.

I am not researching after the fact. I spend a great amount of times looking on different sites for info on all fish. I have owned several tangs in my life. Just not a powder brown. I really was just trying to get any feed back from someone that has maybe had any out of the ordinary experience with them. And the tank size debate will go on forever.

No debate really...the powder brown will outgrow a 90g.

I agree with others. Not to stir up trouble, but a 90G will definitely be too small for a PBT. It might be fine when it's only 2"-3" long, but not when it gets larger. They're not the biggest of tangs, but they do get large enough. I personally wouldn't put them in anything smaller than a 6' long tank. They're VERY active fish (as are pretty much all tangs), so they need lots of swimming space. Remember... minimum tank sizes are just that. Minimums.

In any case, I'd love to see it! Got any pics?
