Depends on the size of your tank. I have a 37g and use a Corallife Super Skimmer 65 that cost around $80. I got the skimmer from Petsolutions.com.

This skimmer pulls out a lot of junk. I recently drilled a whole in the collection cup and sealed a line running from it to a bucket kept below in the stand. This way I can let it skim a little more without having to worry about it overflowing.

Anything over 50 gallons and I would suggest hitting the for sale threads and hope for a good deal

You could try to find a used aquac. There aren't many good HOB options for skimmers, and the aquac's would probably be your best bet. The coralife's are decent skimmers, but their pumps take up a lot of space in the tank IMO.
