Should I run carbon while rock cures in tank?
I have a 75gal. tank with a 29gal. sump and a 20gal. fuge. I have 70lb. of base rock and just added 40lb. of uncured Figi. Will it help the curing process to run carbon in the sump or will that make any difference? I have a Octopus 150nw skimmer and for circulation two hydor koralia powerheads( one #3 & one #4).

I'd skip the carbon until the cure is complete. During the cure the organics released will quickly overwhelm the carbon. Use large water changes to remove waste products from the tank instead.

I agree with Tom, but would like to add that I find when using carbon that it takes longer to complete the cycle. In the initial stage I like to place the rock (cleaned of any sponge or noticeable plant material) in a tank with a fresh sand bed (if you're going with substrate) and only use a filter pad (in the box filter or sump depending on which method you choose)(good tank circulation is very important) cleaning it of any larger debris often. After a few days when you notice very high ammonia, then turn on the skimmer. Next you'll notice the ammonia drop and the nitrite rise, it is at this time frame that I like to add a cup of live sand. Once the nitrite drops (ammonia and nitrite) to 0, and the nitrate jumps, conduct a moderate to large water change and add activated carbon to a high flow area.
At this point you should begin acclimating the tank to a lighting cycle. I go with a few hours a day and increase every third day until a reach my preferred amount (I use 12hrs a day 10am-10pm). With a little patience and restraint, you should have a smooth cycle period with little to no nuisance algae.
