high quality skimmer for ~30g tank?
researching equipment for my upcoming tank, and trying to see what skimmers would be appropriate.
the smallest deltec and H&S skimmers i found were way oversized for a nano tank. (start around 90g and go up from there) 1) does having an oversized skimmer reduce effectiveness? 2) if so, can you point me towards some equal quality skimmers for a small tank? i'm looking for external or in-sump only. no HOB. thanks! |

I would look into the Tunze line of skimmers. I had an aqua C remora which was pretty good on my tank, then upgraded to a Deltec 500 which while a lot more expensive, was no better. If I had done some more research, I probably would have gone with an in-sump Tunze, which only has a 4x4" footprint, and most things Tunze makes are pretty good. At least now you have somewhere to start researching. Good Luck.

Most hobbyist don't need a skimmer for < 30g as weekly 5g water changes will keep that system going just perfect.
If you really want a high end skimmer as stated in your title, go with the H&S A110. I had it on a 50g and it did great. Although it is rated for up to 100g, it works great for any total water volume from 30g-75g range. It is the smallest H&S recirculating skimmer that they make. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...readid=1090258 |

I run a similar system and if I were to buy another skimmer for mine I would go with the DAS EX-1 recirculating skimmer.

a tunze 9002 would work well, as would a DAS ex-1 or an octopus nw110 or 150. A recirc octo would work as well, but I would get the DAS instead. An aquaeuro cs80 would work too, but for the same cash the DAS is better.

Tunze vote ! 9002 for that size tank would be perfect. If not the Tunze, I have read multiple posts touting the DAS as a great skimmer but have no personal experience.

something i did in the store yesterday
get an aqua euro 55 skimmer, (if you can) do a jimi hendrix lighter fluid dousing of the pump, and ignite now cough up $60 for a sedra 2500 needle wheel pump, and mesh mod the impellar. now you have a pretty awesome little skimmer. im not a christian, but doesnt it say somewhere in the bible that your suppose to take evil stuff and make it good? ...lol i would definately say that a tunze 9002 is too small for a 30g, i would look at the 9005, would be better!!(if it was me i'd pick the 9010!!) and as someone else mentioned, the h&s a110-f2000 would be great too, awesome little skimmer. same with the DAS ex-1, great little skimmer, just get it from orca if you do, otherwise it will arrive broken. these skimmers are not too large for your 30g at all, good matches... |

I have an H&S a110 on my 30 cube that has worked wonderfully. I have never used the tunze but wouldnt hesitate to give it a whirl.
