Live Sand vs. Sugar Sand

I need some fine sand for my fuge and cannot find some anywhere. I hve tried to see if other hobbyists have any for me with no luck.

I was going to buy sugar sand and put a nice piece of live rock on it to seed it...

As an alternative, I might just buy a 5lb bag of live sand but most people think it's a ripoff. I think seeding sugar fine would be better than caribsea live sand.

Any thoughts?

I've done it both ways, and think that the biggest difference with the pre-packaged "live" sand was the price of it. I think you're better off with sand and some live rock to seed. That way, you stand a chance to get more than just bacteria and will hopefully get some pods as well.

Just put regular sand in. The rock in the display tank will be enough to see the refugium sand.
