Question phosphate question

Seems like I remember hearing that some phosphate treatments could be detrimental to some corals, particularly softies like leather corals. Anyone know if there is any truth to this? I like to use Boyd's chemi-pure in my tank. The new chemi-pure elite has ferric oxide in it. Think this could be a problem?

Thanks,

Reddog

From what i've read, ferric oxide is detrimental to clams, and other sensative corals. However, i know a few guys who use it with clams with no problems. You may want to try it, see what happens, but have some carbon on hand in case of a problem.

I'm pretty sure the chemi-pure has carbon in it. I used a phosphate mat (one of those red ones) in my tank several years ago and had one leather coral that close-up and never reopened. I guess I should just stear clear of the unknown.

It is true, the zooxanthellae within the corals consume phosphates.
