Spray Paint-Krylon Fusion is what most seem to use.
Paint- I used Rustoleum Pro in black and painted 2 coats with a small disposable roller. Its a matter of preference what you may use. I spray painted one tank and it looked a little blotchy from varied paint thickness. I guess another coat may have taken care of that.. The rest of my tanks I went the roller method and after 2 coats it looked great with no blotchy look. Either way make sure you tape up the tank well where you do not want any paint overspray or paintover.

Another option is to use a piece of black plexi-glass and double faced tape. I did it and it looks great! You can get the plexi-glass from any plastic shop (mine cost about $8 and was ready in 10 min). If you get tired of it, you can take it off or change colors too!

Thank you Phyxius!
Do you know if the Fusion will work to cover up the "Oak" trim on the tank? I'd prefer it be black as well. |

I used flat black rustoleom painted onto the back of the tank, works great. A black background looks sweet.

stephish,
The fusion should cover up the trim. I would scuff it up a little with some finer sand paper first to get rid of the gloss and wipe it down good first. Bad thing is the "Oak" trim tanks usually have tan plastic on the rest so you would have black against brown anyways. Tape up and cover everything else you don't want paint in or on. Like coast2coast7390 said it could get inside the tank with the over spray. Just tape off the edges and use plastic or newspapers to cover the top of the tank and there should be no problem at all. My tanks canopy and stands covers up the trim on top and bottom so you don't see my "Oak" colored trim..

I used 2 coats flat black glass paint, roller. I also (LIGHTLY)sanded the class with a very fine wed/dry sand paper before the painting.
Looks great. |

Stephish,
Sounds craze but I used the darkest window tint I could find to black out the back of my 90g. Up aginst the wall you can't see through to the wall. It was easy to apply, took about 10 min and i was done. Best part is that you can take it off anytime you want to. If you have any ?'s just let me know. Justin |
