How's the temp? Try to verify your readings with another thermometer. Also alkalinity.

actually it was about two weeks ago the calc was high...

alk is 14

temp does swing from about 80 in the morning to 85 in mid afternnon...

I know that seems like alot but it has been doing this well over a year now and everything seems to handle it well...

The monti has grown under these swings from 1" across to almost 5" across now.

That's new growth. Your calc and alk, etc is obviously at the premo levels.

The white can be a sign of new growth, can't really tell from that pic though... I would work on getting your alkalinity and calcium more consistant. What kind of supplimentation are you doing?

Honestly...

Just adding a squirt here and there maybe every other day or so...

I use baked baking soda mixed with r/o water... and then natureef ca supplement

and testing about once every two weeks.

I want to get a calc reactor but don't have the funds right now

No problem, there are more economical means to keeping your alkalinity and calcium in balance anyway. Either dripping Kalkwasser (or you can do a kalk top off), or dosing 2-part would be my recommendation. Either way, it's cheap to make and use.

Here's a couple articles for you.
