It really doesn't explain anything other than air is used for current.... I mean, unless the air pump is on a closed loop, then all the water in the vertical tank would eventually be pushed out the bottom......

He probably has an air pocket up top. The tube draws air from it and then air is put back to that area as it floats up. Pretty unique tank but I'm betting it is a PITA to clean the glass at the top.

true. but I would think that air would become oxygen depleted fairly quick. I suppose that is why he has the waterfall placed in the set up.
