Dehumidifier water?

Would the water pulled out of the air by a dehumidifier be good top off water? I often thought about it since I figured the water that would be in the air would be pretty clean but maybe i'm way off. Anyone know?

The water itself would be good for top off.....
HOWEVER!!!!!!!! since it is collected thru the coil, which is most likely copper, it is not good to use for a reef tank.

They pull impurities from the air as well, so no.

my coil looks like a magnesium/aluminum alloy, whatever it is, it is tarnish resistant.

In theory it should be OK, but I don't even want to touch my dehumidifier water. it just looks gross.

and don't confuse the massive power of saltwater with the not-so-massive power of freshwater to dissolve things

Then you should be making topoff water with an RO/DI unit. Small amounts of copper from the pipes dissolve into your tap water, and you're adding this to your tank every time you top off. Over time, copper will accumulate, and it becomes toxic to invertebrates at relatively low levels.

All i have to say is let that water from the dehumidifier it out for about 3 days undisturbed. It will develop a gross skin on top of it. You definately dont want whatever that is in your tank.

if it was condensed and collected in a sterile environment, like a distiller, it would be safe. However, the water in a dehumidifier condenses on the dirty coils thereby negating any purification.
