octopus nw 200

im thinking of ordering the octopus NW 200 for my 150 with a 40 gallon sump. reason for deciding to go with this particular skimmer is i hear good reviews about it after modding to a mesh wheel and the price is right in my budget at the moment (just bought a house). can i get others opinions to whether this will work out. Any other suggestions to skimmers within $250 to $300 range? I plan on keeping mostly lps and softies at the moment but will try my hand in sps in the future. My fish load will be medium to heavy load. i want to keep a school of dispar anthias (how many can i keep in a 150?), a couple chromis, a yellow and achilles tang, sand sifting gobies, a pair of true percs.

It'll work out great, even if you don't mod it.

I just bout one about 2 weeks ago and love it... I started skimming a little wet and it pulled out quite a bit pretty quickly - within 2 hours.

I am skimming more dry now but it is pulling some awesome skimate...

I definately recommens this skimmer.

Here is after less than two hours...

I adjusted the water level in my sump one night after having this skimmer for about a month, left for work and came home to this.

I've always been hesitant of this skimmer on anything larger than a 125max. Unless its a recirc. Looser, what do your trates stay at and how stocked is your tank? SPS?

The deal on this skimmer when I bought it was I put together my 150 and needed a skimmer to get me going till I could afford to a better skimmer. After 6 months of running it I felt for the money nothing can touch it, I had never modded but one thing and that was the air intake area. It needs to be drilled out much bigger for more airflow to the needlewheel on the pump. After that skims as good if not better than any skimmer out there in it's class. And yes I had SPS, I live in the land of LFS shops (SoCal) so I have to being a reeftard and all, and living here. But seriously I felt it could not keep up with my bioload being over 200gal. of water, fish, and corals it just hung in there. Nit's were low but there, phosphates were around but controlled, I feel 100gal. heavy bioload is it for this skimmer for what it is, thats just my opinion though.

1 hour of modding and you can double the tank size a 200 can handle. it pulls more then double the air when stock and cost about 7 bucks to mod.

1 of my pumps is pulling 35 scfh
