ID : what are these

Every night before the light goes off they start to appear. When the light turns back on its like the march of the penguins and they migrate to the sand. there are at times 100's of them. they look like tiny snails.

Wow, without a pic it could be a plethora of things. Can you get a pic?

Kinda hard to tell from the picture but maybe limpets.

I have some in my tank and I only notice them in very shady areas such as behind a power head.

i think there are too many of them and too small to be limpets. The only thing I can think of is a snail spawning. When this happens they are usually nocturnal... from the research I have done.

the first thing that comes to mind when you say nocturnal snail is Collonista snails. they are some times called mini turbo snails, as they have a similar shape, but only get about 1/4" in dia.

Neither keyhole limpets nor true limpets will migrate into the sand when you turn the lights on, or any other time, so you can eliminate those from the "guess" list.

Cheers,

Don
