When T5 fixtures incorporate LED's...?

What type of LED is it that creates a shimmer effect? The simple coralife duals certainly don't have the punch.

When you say "a bunch"...do you mean in a group or a string of them? Is there a certain number of them to use?
thanks Icefire

Do you mean for moonlighting or for actual tank lighting to replace T5 or Halides or whatever?

German T5 makers have been incorporating some high powered and/or well reflected led's on their T% only fixtures that produce a small amount of shimmer...not moonlights.

just trying to learn more as I can't find any pics/diagrams of these fixtures yet.

Here are two reports of LED’s that produce shimmer:

• Blueline's Deepwater Moonlight (http://www.bluelineaquatics.com/prod...hts/index.html). This post says it “shimmers like crazy”: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...t#post10240217.

• PFO Solaris (http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2006/8/review2). "Glitter" lines are mentioned near the end of the review.

Looks like i'll give the deepwater a try. Not sure they are strong enough to notice the shimmer while my T5's are on though. I wonder what these german companies are using?

I would guess it would have to be a single or cluster of leds that are really bright as opposed to a string.

A small halide might work just as well for less money though. Maybe a 70w just for glitter?

you could try 5-10 luxeon k2 with lens, not cheap.

there is some ready made led bulb 120v at 30-50$
