Too much flow?

Hey,

I just finished setting up my 60g cube w/ 30 sump. This time i decided to put a closed loop on the tank. Im running a Iwaki wmd40-rlxt thats putting out about 1200 total gph thru 4 outlets, im also pushing about 600 gph out of the return. It seems like the fish are getting pretty battered, but they do seem to like it...

I was wondering if it ever gets to the point where there is just too much flow in a tank. Maybe its just cus this is a smaller tank than im used to, and the fish dont have as much room to swin thats causing me to believe that too much flow is hampering their swimming abilities.

should i turn off the cl at night?

thanks-

Thats about thirty times per hour. Doesn't seem too high at all. A buddy of mine turns over 100 times in his 100gal cube. His fish do seem to stay outta the way. My 55 turns 42x per hour. The fish love it.

It's possible to have too much flow, you however don't have it. Unless you're keeping coralimorpharians and LPS corals primarily it's certainly not too much.

My 20g reef does 65x an hour and I can still keep LPS and mushrooms in there. It's all about how you break up the flow. I run much of mine through the rock to make sure there is no detritus in the rock.

JME

My 65g is about 30x an hour, the CL pumps through spraybars under the rocks, enough to keep the detritus in suspension, not enough to bother the seahorses, who are a relatively low flow fish. It's all about how it's broken up.

I am interesting of how you do the setup. Can you share some drawing? Do you use the sumersible pump for the close loop?
Thanks. Shin.
