Mine has given me many "false alarms" in the past 6 months. Every now and then..it will decide to shrivel up or a few days. Sometimes it will droop over like a limp noodle. It's always come back (so far!).

Maybe check it because the one time mine was shriveled....there was a little snail latched on to him. Another time, I found pink sponge all around the base that must have been irritating him.

Corals will retract their polyps for many reasons. From being bothered by the aquarist or fish to water params being out of whack. Is there anything out of the ordinary going on with your water quality?

they like good flow but make sure it's not getting blasted by the new powerhead.

i have it shooting against the glass. it's getting good flow and it's not in direct contact of the powerhead. but i'm wondering if flow is bouncing off the glass and hitting it could that be it?

Possibly. It would be my first guess. The trees I have always seemed to be best in very mild gentle current.

However, mine occasionally crunches into a broccolli. When that happens something horrible is off.
Check salinity... temperature... nitrates... where are the emerald crabs (a large one I always find hiding under the largest tree I have... never seems to bother it but I always suspect he's nipping at it)... etc.

If he just closes up his polyps and deflates a bit, things are fine. Even transforming to broccoli is fine on occassion for short periods. It seems to be part of how it propagates.

hope it helps...

Also make sure it's not close to another more aggressive coral. It might be getting stung at night.
