ozone without contorller ?

how many people running ozone without ORP controller or monitor? do just just run it low or actully set it on timer ?

i'm thinking to run either Sander 50 or 100 at low percentage just to keep the water clean, but i really don't want to spend too much money on getting monitor or controller.. any sugguestion ?

It can be done, but there is an increased chance of something going wrong. If you do go without a controller, use a smaller unit to be on the safe side.

I run an Enaly 300 without a dryer or controler. No problems at all. I run it for a few days at a time, no set schedule. I have a 150 w/ 30g sump.

If your spending money on a Sanders ozonizer, why not spend an additional 80-90 dollars on a Milawaukee ORP controller/monitor for piece of mind and convienance. I like to be able to have an accurate measure of anything being put into my system. Sell some plasma, J/K :>)

I have ozone running on ctlr, but I find it unnecessary. You don't need to push the envelope w/ ozone IMHO. just add a low level constant stream. If you add like 30mg in say 200 gal it's probably near impossible to do any damage.

How about a 50mg for a 120 with a 30 gal sump? W/O running a controller.

My tank is a 180 sps and I run the bigger red sea (200 I think) at only 25 percent. I know many knowladgable reefers including doctors who convinced me a monitor is a waste so I have never used one or beads either.

I have an SPS tank w/ some blastos, a clam and 1 Echino.

I imagine that you can run a small ozone generator on a low level without worrying about using a controller. If you are using it on a protein skimmer, less is often more. A little ozone can break down complex organics into smaller pieces that are more readily adsorbed onto the surface of the bubbles in a protein skimmer, thus significantly increasing its effectiveness. Too much, however, will break the organics down to the point where they are not easily adsorbed, thus cutting down the effectiveness of a protein skimmer. Now as far as using ozone for other purposes aside from protein skimming, you'd probably need to run a bit more and therefore need to use a ORP controller.
