i need a protein skimmer
What do ya'll think the best skimmer would be for a 100 gal tank. I would prefer the skimmer to not be in the sump but it really doesn't matter. Any info or experiences would be great. Thanks

The DAS models are getting favorable reviews, I have one but don't have it running yet.

Would the octopus be able to handel a large bioload and would I be able to upgrade it by just getting parts for it instead of buying a whole new skimmer?

a nw200 on a 100g? no problem. With meshmod, it'd easily handle 200.

Wont handle a heavily loaded 100g. Wouldnt handle my medium loaded 58 (had an AP600...wasnt even close) Maybe an EX-2.

If its not heavily loaded an EX-1 would work fine. It pulls more air than a stock Octo 200 remember... so to say that a octo 100 would work, but not a EX-1? Dont get me wrong, Id say a normal skimmer design with about 800lph would be ideal, but a DAS EX-1 with 500lph isnt exactly shy.

For the Ex-1, your best bet is protein-skimmer.com (Orca). They call it the DA Needlewheel or something but its the Das Ex-1. If you want the Ex-2 or higher you are left with petorama.net (who was a poor shipping record).

Orca sells the EX-2 and Ex-3 as well, they are just not on their site.
If you tell them what you want they can make anything, and the prices are almost as good as DAS, but Orca units are better built. Check it out. |
