possible lighting downgrade....bad? help!!
Hi all...I am thinking about upgrading tanks from a 65 to a 100. I would be buying a used tank that has 2 pc 96 watt dual lights. I currently have my lps, softies, and mushrooms under a 150w mh(its the big bulb, about 8 inches from the surface of the water in a canopy). Is it bad to downgrade the lighting from mh to pc? If so, any suggestions? The hood on the 100 gallon is from manufacturer and I dont know how or if it is possible to change the pc to mh or t-5 or vho(are vho and t5 the same thing? still kinda new). PLEASE HELP!
Second question I have regarding the corals, is that if I move the current sand and water into the 100g along with my cleanup crew(shrimp, hermits, snails) will a cycle occur and hurt the corals and these guys? Its a deep sand bed, but has only been setup for about 2 months. I appreciate all the input and info I can get from everyone! Thank you! |

if all you have is mushrooms and softies, they should be fine, the color won't be as good IMO
I have a MH tank and a PC tank, the PC's just don't have that many options for colors I like the MH colors better My LPS do fine in my PC tank, and my friends has a LPS PC tank, and they are fine Good luck |

Thank you RedEyeElf. Any other experiences or thoughts from others? Are 2 96W bulbs enough for a 100 gallon?
Also, do you think its safe to move the current sand with the inhabitants to the new tank without causing a cycle? Its a dsb and has been running for about 2 months. |
