White hardness on rock?

I am trying to figure out what this could be.......i cannot currently post a pic but there is white areas of what appears to be a powder like coating on my live rock......but when i touch it, it is hard and i cant really scratch it off? I need to check my calcium levels when i get home......do you think it could be calcium build up?? Any help would be appreciated!

Josh

jcoat, in a few weeks the white will begin to turn pink and purple as the coraline algae regrows. Be sure to keep your water params up to encourage growth.

I have the same thing on my Live Rock.. Its been cycling for about 2 weeks now and the Nitrites are begining to drop...

Just curious... But I have been runing the cycle without any lighting yet. Does anyone know when I should start to use my lights?

yea.....now. its good to let your lights run so that you can fully cycle you tank and let the coraline algae begin to grow.......light needs to be present for the coraline to grow i believe!

It's just bleached coralline. Depending on your lighting and tank params, the coralline will tend to bleach and then color up over time. No worries mate.
