I think there was/is a wholesaler, mostly dry supplies, closer to O'Hare, but they did not sell to the public, nor did they have a company store.
There is a place called Minireef, but I don't know what they do or sell. |

only retailers can buy from the distributors and wholesalers
i am not familiar with the place you are referring to i doubt they sell marine fish apet sells way more than fish while im not a big fan of them in general it is awsome to hand-pick stuff theyre regular f/w is overpriced compared to buying out of florida but some of the wild caughts are competive in price and worth getting the marine is hit and miss what really sucks about a distributor is the stress the live stock is put under with apet the marine has such a high turnover, they are simply keeping it alive long enough to sell its an extra step in the distribution chain which sucks for everyone i would think like at least 80% of what you see at retailers comes from florida fish farms and possibly a little from cali dont be so stuck on getting the same price as the retailer your LFS provides a valuble service if you are savvy enough to take advantage of it shipping fish is very stressful and the acclimation process after shipping is the most likely time a fish will die or become ill fish that come from a wholesaler/distributor may have been in the wild VERY recently who says that fish will ever successfully acclimate or eat prepared foods? i suggest talking with your retailer and ask them how long they have had a specimen before purchasing dont buy anything that hasn't been there a week dont buy anything that you cannot SEE WITH YOUR OWN EYES eat a prepared food unless you want to go through what is nessisary to provide what that fish would eat in the wild, live stuff etc. although i have purchased some things at the wholesale level most of my fish were purchased at my LFS going to the fish store is fun too if you never buy anything you wont have one when you need it

there is a distributor in the ohare area that gets their fish from the philippines direct. they used to let consumers in but some LFS complained about it so no more for us, they only sell to LFS.

i am aware of some people that were not actual retailers that have gotten into apet
i find that practice to be dishonest, distasteful, and possibly illegal there is a realitively high minimum purchase for cash and carry so it wouldn't even make sense if you were only stocking your own tank unless you enjoy throwing a bunch of highly stressed livestock in your tank all at once plus if you're so price sensitive just order from some of the online places i beleive some of them have prices that rival apet and maybe even a warrenty apets warrenty is that it is alive when you net it

how about the major LAX players... SDC, UW, QM, IP, etc. most of the good stuff is coming direct from them.... not midwest "transhippers."
