40g Breeder Fish Suggestions
I just finished upgrading my 10g to a 40g breeder, which is currently fish less. I'm having a hard time deciding on what to put in the new tank. So I decided to ask for some help.
So far I've got... Pair of True Percula Tailspot Blenny Longnose Hawkfish (maybe) Suggestions welcome. ![]() |

In mine i've got:
Black ocellaris clown pair (female is mean to me!!! ![]() Bangaii cardinal And a coral beauty. I've been thinking about adding one more fish, but i dont wanna overdo it or anything so i cant decide on anything yet haha. I've had various other fish in there that either had bad accidents or just didnt mix well.. A fire fish would also be nice as happy face said.

Where did you get your black ocellaris from?
I was also thinking about a Coral Beauty. I had a Cherub Angel that I loved until one night it went carpet surfing. ![]() I've added fire fish to the list of possibilities. ![]() |

I got my black clowns from a local reefer who was gonna take some gsp from me but never got around to stopping by to get it lol...so i guess for free
![]() Check some online places, or see if your LFS can special order them for you. They may be quite pricey...i've seen like 70 bucks from some places...for a pair i think.

My LFS store sells a pair for $200 so there is no way I will be getting them from there.
Royal gramma's are cool. |

Dang. I think I might try and order a pair from Liveaquaria though I'm a little hesitant cause I've never ordered any fish online.

I wouldnt put one of those in a 40g tank...they'd need at least 55 IMO cuz most wrasses swim a lot, and radiants are a little longer than your regular fairy wrasses...sixlines work, so do carpenters and other ones like those..

In my 1 year old 40 breeder I have the following fish. Clown Fairy Wrasse, Lubbuck Fairy Wrasse, Carpenter Flasher Wrasse, Yellow Watchman, and a pair of Percula Clowns. 6 fish total, with the Flasher Wrasse being the last one added 6 months ago. So far no problem at all.

Kinetic, The pictures of your tailspot is what made me want to get one.
![]() I hear sixlines can be pretty aggressive too. I'll take a look at some fairy wrasses. |

i also heard that about sixlines, and out of the 2 that i had, neither one touched a thing in the tank ever, not even inverts. I keep everything well fed usually too, so that may have helped, but idk..personally i dont think they're as bad as people make them out to be.

That's true, I really like them. I watch them at the LFS frag tanks darting around. Do they get along with Fairy Wrasses?

black clowns normally take a while to mature so if you actually want to breed them, it might take a couple of years. but they are quite nice to watch!
As far as the 6-line, I just booted mine off to "jail" because he kept attacking my black clown. Caused the male to jump tank and nearly died. My 6-line was peaceful and well fed, but would go on these "moods" and terrorize my clowns, basslet and goby into a small corner of the tank. 6-lines are a chancy fish so always have a backup plan... such as my friend who will receive the wrasse in a couple of weeks (he needs a replacement) |
