where do you place torch corals?
Do torch corals need to be placed in the sandbed? I've been reading online and most sites suggest that they be placed low in the aquarium. Why is this? I have 260 watts of power compacts over a standard 55 and am worried if I place the torch low, it won't get enough light.

I keep mine about 20 inches below a 400w MH about 6 inches above the aquarium so I do not think you will have a problem with to strong of lighting but higher in your tank might now be a bad choice. As for placement, I drilled out a hole in my live rock and then placed the base of the skeleton in there with a little bit of epoxy to keep it snug. If I didnt "drill and glue" my urchins would topple it

I stuck mine on the sandbed right next to some LR. They've been there for like a year now and they seem to be doing fine.
In my previous setup, I glued the skeleton to a LR while getting some nice flow and it grew rapidly. That thing got so huge that my Tomato clown made it its "home"

yeah, my Ocellaris clowns host in my torch as well... I guess it depends if you have anything that might knock things over. It might get annoying if you have to always set it back up. I guess you really can go wrong with the placement unless you place it too close to another coral or have poor water movement. Goodluck!
