Hard, brown algae. What is it.Pic inside
I have a brown algae that has taken up shop in a few different spots in my tank.
It is dark brown and appears to have little hairs on it. It is very hard. I tried to scratch some off with my fingernail after a toothbrush didnt make a dent and I could barely scratch through it. It is spreading VERY slowly. My tank is a 120 with some sps, zoas, and 5 relatively small fish. I am running a deltec apf600 full time for skimming and filter sock on all return water to my sump. I also just added a rowaphos reactor a couple of weeks ago just to see if phosphates were an issue. Even though tests show none detectible and I use only ro/di for top off and change water. I will try to post a pic.... |

PS I already looked at dinos and it looks nothing like them to me. No bubbles and it is very hard. No stringy like I have heard some describe dinos.
Also, it spreads VERY slowly and does not seem to be affected by what type of water change schedule I follow or lighting schedule. |

I dont know what you mean by burn it off.
I didnt try to remove it other than scraping it off with my fingernail or a toothbrush. Anyone else have any suggestions on what this is????? |
